Biometric technology analyses and measures a biological characteristic of an individual to create a unique identifier which can be electronically stored and retrieved for positive identification. The use of such technology has already been announced as the basis for national identity cards and future passports in the USA and UK. A biometric characteristic can be a fingerprint, iris, voice, hand, face or even an ear lobe.
