Advantages and uses The advantages and uses are endless. Imagine that it is several years from now........ You’re awoken by your robomaid, as requested, who is playing your favourite song whilst silently hovering your bedroom. You go to your computer and are automatically logged on by it’s iris scanner, you check your email and then remember you need to pay some bills. You log on to the bank website, await authorisation via the iris scanner and are then welcomed by name. You transfer the funds but request biometric identification from the receiver before final transfer and clearance. You are requested at the office meeting today, so you go to your car which you unlock using your fingerprint key fob and you start the engine using the iris scanning sun visor mirror. You travel to the spaceport and are greeted by name after walking through the facial recognition zone. Your mobile starts to beep and you open the SMS using the fingerprint scanner. It’s your colleague boasting that he’s won the bet that you had and that you owe him twenty pounds. On checking your wallet (with fingerprint scanner), you discover that you have no cash and so go to the cash machine. The ATM clarifies your identity via its facial recognition camera which runs a continuous check during your transaction. On landing on the moon you are granted access to the office via the facial recognition cameras in the reception hall. You head up in the lift to the secure zone, where your identity is confirmed through the scanning of your hand, iris and voice. On entering the department, you grab the coffee which was made by the office robomaid, who had been signalled to do so on your arrival, and head into your meeting. You give your colleague his twenty pounds and a pat on the back. Your boss enters the room and the meeting starts. ‘First up’ he says, ‘We’ve been clearing out the basement and came across some old filing cabinets. We’re not sure what’s in them and were wondering if anyone knew where the keys were?’ KEYS!?
Here at +VE ID we believe that soon biometrics will just be another device we use everyday without even thinking about it. One of it’s strongest advantages is against theft and fraud. You can verify who you are during bank transactions, you can secure your laptop, mobile, car and gun with a fingerprint so that they are useless without that authorisation. Organisations can control who has access to which areas with no fear of lost keys or borrowed token cards. The convenience is amazing. No struggling to find your house keys in the rain. No forgetting your office keys and only realising when you get to work. The potential for biometrics is all around us. It is going to change the way we secure our data, property and country for the better. |
